BEACH CHAIR PHILOSOPHY

Many families go to the beach in the Summer, and as a Parent, they will plant their Beach chair in the Sand, pour their favorite drink and open their favorite book. They then give their children some very important instruction. They say go play, body surf, boogie board, swim, whatever you enjoy, but remember the Ocean has some very strong currents and will push you down the beach…I need you to look up every so often and find my Beach chair…refocus on where you need to be…then readjust yourself so I can see you.

This Beach Chair Philosophy story is something I heard in my local church and applies to almost everything in life.

We may value God and get very excited about our relationship with him. But then life gets busy and we can tend to get distracted…next thing you know we feel confused, frustrated and lost. We don’t know why but if we had looked up every now and then, we may have realized that we have been doing things in our own strength…We have gotten away from God. This is when we need to get out of the current and refocus on our beach chair…God. We must not let life's currents pull us to far downstream.

Our Finances are the same way. We get sick & tired of not having money and too much debt. We don’t even know where our money is going. So, we get mad and put together a budget (our beach chair). We become determined to stick to this budget and get our finances in order. But then a friend calls and wants to meet you for dinner & drinks, another friend asks you to be in their wedding, one of your kids need braces, the car starts making a funny noise, and the list goes on and on and on. Next thing you know you have completely lost track of your money once again and you just give up…what’s the use? Life’s currents have just pulled you down stream and you have no idea where your beach chair is?

WHAT MAKES SOMEONE SUCCESSFUL
I heard Pastor Craig Groeschel, Founder of Life Church say, “Successful people Consistently do what others do Occasionally.” How True! This truly applies to everything we do.
For example, lets discuss Physical Fitness. More than likely EVERYONE would like to be physically fit…I don’t know anyone who says they prefer to be overweight and out of shape. So, if we all want to be physically fit, why aren’t we? I believe it comes down to consistency. Sure, some people have better genes than others, but the bigger reason some are more fit than others is because they consistently work at it. They exercise consistently, do Cardio consistently, and eat right consistently. They know who they want to be, and they develop a plan to be that person…then they stick to it. They are CONSISTANT. People who WANT to be physically fit, but find themselves overweight, out of shape, and tired all the time, only occasionally do what they need to do to be the person they want to be. They may join a gym, but only go when time permits. They will have a salad for lunch but then go home and put down a bag of potato chips. Then they tell their friends they do not know why they can’t seem to lose weight. It is because they are not Consistent. It is Simple…They are not doing what they need to do consistently to get the desired results they are after.
Spiritual fitness is the same way. If you want to be spiritually fit and have a good personal relationship with Jesus, you need to have consistent communication with him. You have to Read, Pray, meditate on his Word, go to Church, Give, and try to live the life of Jesus the best you can…Consistently. Going to Church on Easter and Christmas, or perhaps praying when you made a mess of things is not consistent….it is occasional….and will most likely not give you that close personal relationship you claim to want nor the results you are after.
Financial Fitness is no different. If you want to be Financially Fit, Free, and Successful with your money, you have to be Consistent. You have to Budget, Give, Save, and Spend Wisely on a consistent basis. You have to work at it every day. You have to track your spending and make adjustments as necessary. You have to have a plan to determine who you want to be, then you have to Consistently do what you planned to do in order to make sure you are successful. I have never met anyone who said they want to be bad with their money, so I assume you want to be financially free. Perhaps you tried to create a budget, but you still find yourself swimming in Debt with No idea where your money goes, or your spending is out of control. If this sounds like you, I can tell you what your problem is…you have NOT been Consistent…you Occasionally like to think about your money. I can almost guarantee that If you are not successful with your money, the reason is because you are only working at it occasionally. Working on your Financial independence and freedom on an occasional basis will not produce the results you are after.
So, if you are someone who would truly like to have Financial freedom…Free from Debt, Free from financial stress, free from overspending, free from not knowing where your money is going, but are having a tough time getting there, I CAN HELP! That is what I do. I am a Financial Coach. I will work with you to develop a plan to be the person you want to be financially. Then I will work with you to keep you accountable and on track. Make sure you Consistently do what you need to do to be Financially Successful. It may not be easy, but not too many things worthwhile are easy. It will take hard work. It will require some behavior changes to how you handle money. But we can do it together. I know we can get you Consistent with how you handle money, and you can be stress free and enjoying your financial freedom is a short period of time.

CAVEMAN THINKING
Thinking is certainly healthy but sometimes we can over think and that is not good. Over thinking can wear you out, and most likely will lead to Confusion, Frustration and Feeling Overwhelmed.
Caveman Thinking is a way of keeping things simple…to quit over thinking. I came up with this concept a few years ago. You see, I love to Golf. I started late in life, but I really enjoyed it and started playing & studying a lot. I saw my scores go from the 100’s to the 90’s to the 80’s but then just kind of stopped. So, I started studying more. Reading and thinking more. You see, golf seems like a really easy game. After all, how hard can it be? You stand over a little white ball that is not moving and you hit it whenever you are ready. Easy huh? Well, it should be but when you start thinking about everything under the sun while you’re trying to hit a golf ball, things can get complicated very quickly. Standing over the ball, you question the club you are going to use, your grip, your stance, position of ball, how fast you take the club away, the plane of your swing, your tempo, your wrist & hand angles, Weight transfer, not swaying, keeping your head down, follow through, and on and on you go. I started thinking about all these things and guess what…it did not help. My game just seemed to be getting worse not to mention my frustration levels went sky high. I had to do something, so I came up with this concept of CAVEMAN Golf. See Ball – Hit Ball. I knew the basics of the game, but I had to quit thinking so much and keep it simple. See Ball – Hit Ball. I started do this. As I stood over the ball, I would say to myself, See Ball – Hit ball. I quit thinking and guess what? I started playing better golf. I also started having much more fun again. I’m not a Pro and I still make bad shots from time to time, but a lot less frequent than when I was thinking. I had made the game way to hard and much too complicated.
I saw this work on my golf game so I started thinking of how I could apply this to other parts of my like. Could I apply this to my spiritual life? I had been reading the Bible and there is a lot of things in scripture that are hard to read & understand. It is good to think about what you are reading and pray for understanding but the key is not to get frustrated and give up. God had a lot of good things to say and you just need to keep reading & praying then understanding will come. I was making things way to complicated so I came up with CAVEMAN CHRISTIANITY. KNOW GOD – TRUST GOD. That’s what I started doing…Read and to the best of my ability get to Know Gods Word and then Trust it. Guess what…it worked. I am still no biblical scholar, but I have learned a lot of what God has advised, warned, and promised. I simply Trust & Obey it and Blessings follow. Caveman Christianity worked!
But guess what? This also can also apply to our Finances. Many people get overwhelmed with their finances. They have no clarity about where their money is going, and they get frustrated. But I say let’s keep it simple with CAVEMAN FINANCES…EARN WISELY – SPEND WISELY. This might not be a catchy as see ball – hit ball but it is every bit as effective. We really can keep our finances this simple. We have to Earn Money and then Spend that money WISELY...it really is that simple. My Financial Coaching programs are designed to show you how to keep this Simple for you. I will bring CAVEMAN FINANCES to you. You will be seeing your money more clearly than ever. Before long, you will be trying to figure out why you ever had trouble with money. EARN WISELY…SPEND WISELY!
